Responsibilities

Reviews and approves new and revised classified and unclassified position descriptions to determine appropriate classification, appointment type, employment class, bargaining unit status, and placement within compensation structures
Evaluates position descriptions to ensure duties, scope, and responsibilities are accurately documented and aligned with institutional classification standards
Conducts Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) determinations in compliance with federal requirements, including application of exemption tests, position audits, and communication of outcomes and required actions to leadership and employees
Collaborates with Human Resources technical teams to ensure job titles, classifications, and position data are accurately established, maintained, and updated within HR information systems and position description platforms
Performs compensation-related reviews and approvals in accordance with established College policies and guidelines
Reviews and approves starting salaries, in-hire rates above entry levels, off-cycle salary increases, merit and equity adjustments, administrative stipends, pay differentials, special pay requests, and work-out-of-classification actions
Assists with the administration of compensation programs, including step increases, cost-of-living adjustments, and other contractual or policy-driven salary provisions
Reviews and analyzes compensation actions to ensure compliance with equal pay laws, internal equity standards, and institutional pay practices
Identifies appropriate comparator groups for positions performing work of comparable character and recommends salary rates and compensation actions that support equity, consistency, and competitiveness across the institution
Monitors and responds to classification and compensation inquiries, escalating or routing issues as appropriate
Develops and distributes communications to employees, managers, and senior leadership regarding classification and compensation initiatives, policy updates, and procedural changes
Creates training materials, guidance documents, and reference resources related to position description development, classification, and compensation processes
Facilitates training sessions and consultations for campus stakeholders on classification, compensation, organizational structure, and related systems and tools
Conducts quarterly or annual desk audits and compensation studies using external benchmarks and surveys (for example, CUPA-HR)
May serve on College committees, task forces, or working groups, as requested
Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the position

Required

Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience
Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in position classification, compensation administration, or related human resources functions
Demonstrated experience conducting FLSA determinations and applying compensation policies, frameworks, and equity principles
Strong analytical, communication, and consultation skills, with the ability to explain complex compensation concepts to diverse audiences

Preferred

Experience supporting classification and compensation programs within higher education, a large public-sector organization, or a similarly complex institutional environment
Experience conducting compensation studies using external market data and survey tools
