Energy Performance Engineer

The Energy Performance Engineer will be responsible for optimizing fuel economy and range for vehicle programs, collaborating closely with propulsion system calibrators and the broader development team to enhance energy efficiency.

Responsibilities
Comprehend regulation requirements relative to certification testing
Keep abreast of new and pending fuel economy or EV related regulatory requirements
Uses global energy analytical models to perform fuel economy/range calculations
Identify required vehicle hardware to execute energy development program
Report progress to the vehicle program team on a regular basis
Schedules and plan test and development programs
Work jointly with the Drive Quality engineer to meet program performance objectives
Sets up and operates test and data collection devices and measurement tools
Supports ride evaluation trips and demonstrations
Ensures Magazine demonstration cars represent intended production performance
Exchanges information with others as needed to work across architectures
Understand/evaluate the impact of various control strategies and calibrations on fuel economy/range
Some occasional Travel is required for vehicle evaluations in various environments (grades, temperature extremes)
This work varies at different phases of the development program as a vehicle is taken from initial concept and planning through prototype development and finally to EPA and/or global window label certification and start of production at the assembly plant
Qualification
Required
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Aeronautical Engineering or related degree
5+ years of related job experience in powertrain development, emissions testing, measurement engineering, propulsion, dynamometer testing, analytical modeling
Experience with analytical math modeling, MATLAB, Unified model
ETAS and NeoVi skilled
Understanding of calibration systems, building and flashing calibrations
Knowledge of the certification process for the US and other global regions
Understanding of basic control systems
In-depth knowledge of hardware and software interfaces
Understanding of vehicle instrumentation and digital acquisition systems
In-depth knowledge of serial data communications
This position requires a valid driver's license, and the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis
Preferred
MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Aeronautical Engineering or related degree
DFSS Black Belt Certified
