Responsibilities
Analyze financial statements, budget reports, and expenditure data
Prepare cost analyses, forecasts, and financial models
Monitor program budgets and track obligations and expenditures
Support annual budget formulation and execution processes
Evaluate financial performance of programs and initiatives
Ensure compliance with federal financial regulations and policies
Assist with audits and respond to financial data requests
Prepare briefings, reports, and recommendations for management
Use financial systems and tools (e.g., Excel, federal accounting systems)
Qualification
Required
A Financial Analyst supports government programs by analyzing financial data, monitoring budgets, forecasting costs, and ensuring compliance with federal laws and regulations
Analyze financial statements, budget reports, and expenditure data
Prepare cost analyses, forecasts, and financial models
Monitor program budgets and track obligations and expenditures
Support annual budget formulation and execution processes
Evaluate financial performance of programs and initiatives
Ensure compliance with federal financial regulations and policies
Assist with audits and respond to financial data requests
Prepare briefings, reports, and recommendations for management
Use financial systems and tools (e.g., Excel, federal accounting systems)
Knowledge of federal budgeting and accounting principles
Strong analytical and quantitative skills
Ability to interpret financial data and identify trends
Strong understanding of US GAAP, ASC 606, and experience managing compliance with SOC 2 and other regulatory standards
Familiarity with tax regulations and compliance reporting at federal, state, and local levels
Proficiency in spreadsheets and data analysis tools
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Understanding of government regulations and compliance requirements
Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or related field
Coursework in accounting, budgeting, or financial analysis is often required
Relevant experience may substitute for education at some grade levels
Preferred
Typical Federal Grades
Entry Level: GS-7 / GS-9
Mid-Level: GS-11 / GS-12
Senior Level: GS-13 or higher
