Arts Marketing & Development Internship

The City of Frederick is seeking a dynamic and thoughtful Part-Time Shared Futures Fellow to support the City’s efforts to acknowledge the United States’ 250th anniversary with creativity, inclusivity and a shared future perspective. This fellowship will focus on elevating the histories and contributions of historically underserved and underacknowledged communities in Frederick, ensuring these narratives are centered in exhibitions and public programs tied to this milestone year.

Responsibilities

Supports the work of the City’s 250 Planning Committee by contributing to research, community engagement strategies, and the development and implementation of cultural programming that reflect the goals of the commemoration
Conducts research on underrepresented histories within Frederick, with a focus on elevating stories connected to Black, Indigenous, immigrant, and other historically marginalized communities
Assists in planning and curating multi-site exhibitions and public programs aligned with the overarching theme exploring shared futures across the City of Frederick
Coordinates with City departments (e.g. Public Affairs, Arts and Culture and the Weinberg Center for the Arts, Parks & Recreation, Economic Development, Office of Equity and Inclusion and more) to align storytelling and programming efforts
Builds and sustains relationships with artists, cultural leaders, historians, and community members to inform and shape commemorative activities
Drafts interpretive materials, content for signage or exhibits, and accessible outreach tools (e.g., flyers, social media copy, program guides)
Provides logistical and planning support for events, meetings, and community engagement activities
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Current student enrolled in a college (undergraduate or graduate) degree program
Demonstrated interest in local government, community engagement, curatorial practice, or public service
Exceptional organizational and time management capabilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in project management software and digital coordination tools
Ability to multitask and manage multiple events and assignments simultaneously
Creative problem-solving and adaptability
Computer proficiency, Microsoft Office, etc

Preferred

Degree, coursework, or interest in public administration, art history, or arts management
Bilingual (any language)
Experience with municipal government or cultural institutions
