3D Printer Lab Specialist

FTS Inc is seeking a hands-on technical specialist to operate and support a Digital Fabrication & XR Lab. This role involves managing day-to-day lab operations including 3D printing, optical scanning, and VR/XR systems, while also supporting design review sessions and ensuring lab safety.

Responsibilities

Operate, monitor, and maintain a multi-printer FDM/FFF 3D printing environment
Perform setup, calibration, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting
Support users with print preparation, slicing, material selection, and post-processing
Execute print jobs on behalf of teams and manage job prioritization
Track filament and consumables inventory and maintain usage logs
Maintain print quality standards and preventive maintenance schedules
Operate and maintain an optical scanning system, including calibration and software updates
Scan parts and fixtures and assist with measurement and inspection outputs
Support users with setup, best practices, and interpretation of scan results
Maintain VR systems, headsets, and high-performance workstations
Prepare and support immersive design review sessions, including scene setup and session facilitation
Configure and maintain standalone and PC-tethered VR/XR devices
Manage headset inventory, accessories, cleaning procedures, and check-in/check-out processes
Organize and facilitate cross-functional design review sessions
Serve as lab safety lead, enforcing SOPs, PPE usage, and access controls
Conduct safety briefings and refresher training as needed
Assist with planning and execution of drone capture sessions
Support basic data handling, point cloud, or mesh processing workflows
Create and maintain SOPs, quick-start guides, and troubleshooting documentation
Track lab metrics such as equipment uptime, queue times, and training completion
Coordinate with vendors and internal teams for equipment support and compliance

Required

Associate degree (AAS/AOS/AS) in Drafting, CAD, or a related technical field
Hands-on experience with FDM/FFF 3D printers, including setup and troubleshooting
Comfortable training users and providing customer-service-oriented support
Working knowledge of Windows-based systems and basic networking concepts
Ability to read basic mechanical drawings and understand tolerances
Experience operating VR equipment in a lab, demo, or training environment
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple requests

Preferred

Experience with Bambu 3D printers and related software tools
Experience supporting or facilitating immersive design reviews
Familiarity with optical or vision-based measurement systems
Exposure to XR workflows or standalone VR devices
Basic experience with photogrammetry, point cloud, or scan data tools
