Responsibilities
Installs, makes extensions, additions, or changes in electrical wiring fixtures and equipment
Performs highly complex building maintenance work such as carpentry, masonry, painting, plastering, welding, and plumbing; may supervise the moving and installing of replacement machines and auxiliary apparatus
Inspects equipment to determine repair costs and salvages parts or disposes of worn-out equipment
Operates light or heavy equipment as required
Performs inventory control of maintenance equipment and supplies; assists in the purchase of equipment and supplies as necessary
Prepares and maintains a variety of written records and reports; reads and interprets plans, specifications, blueprints and schematics; prepares as-built sketches
Assists in the feeding of chemicals and maintenance of the equipment
Installs, repairs, and sets recording instruments
Knowledgeable in use of computerized Asset Management software and its application
Provides courteous customer service; responds to questions and inquiries form City staff; resolves customer problems and complaints
Prepares reports and maintains work records
Installs, repairs, and replaces motors, pumps, gears, drive trains, boilers, and hydraulic systems
Operates large lathe, large pipe threader, boring machines, pipe cutters, and saws
Occasionally perform routine janitorial and grounds maintenance duties
Observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment; sets traffic controls, secures worksites form hazards and attends training and safety meeting as necessary
May work weekends, holidays, or other irregular hours
Assures city facilities are kept in good operating order
Performs other related duties as required or assigned
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED
At least two (2) years of work experience performing maintenance and repairs on plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems and equipment commonly found in commercial facilities
Ability to pass a city-paid physical and a drug screen
Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license
Must be able to work overtime as assigned
Will be required to work on call
Practices, techniques, materials, and equipment used in maintenance, construction and repair of facilities
Knowledge of OSHA and other environmental regulations
Materials methods, terminology, and tools used in the maintenance, repair, and construction of building structures and systems including those used in performing rough and finished carpentry, plumbing, electrical, remodeling, painting, and a variety of other craft work
Relevant laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, applicable building codes, fire regulations and safety precautions
Shop mathematics applicable to the building trades
Operation and proper procedures used in the maintenance and repair of hand and power tools
Occupational hazards and standard safety procedures
General ADA standards
Principles and practices of record keeping inventory tracking and control
