Computer Numerical Control Machinist
Responsibilities
Runs and sets up standard CNC mills and/or lathes
Edits programs, holds tolerances, follows established processes
Growing independence and troubleshooting ability
Independently sets up complex parts on mills and/or lathes
Optimizes feeds, speeds, tooling, and minor program logic
Supports first-article work and prototype jobs
Troubleshoots machining issues within assigned scope
Leads complex setups and process optimization on mills and lathes
Writes and optimizes CNC programs (on-machine and offline)
Supports difficult materials and tighter tolerances
Mentors Level III–IV machinists as needed
Owns execution from CAD → CAM → first article for assigned parts
Independently programs, sets up, and proves out complex jobs
Resolves most machining issues within assigned scope
Own machining strategy from CAD → CAM → first article
Designs advanced fixture and work-holding solutions for large VTL components
Serves as technical resource within the machining group
Develops advanced CAM programs & probing subroutines to optimize machine utilization
Acts as escalation point for complex machining challenges
Influences best practices within machining function
Reserved for elite, hands-on technical experts
Leads machining execution for the most technically challenging work
Develops end-to-end machining strategies for prototype and low-volume R&D parts
Establishes program standards and best practices
Supports cross-machine troubleshooting as needed
Remains primarily shop-floor based
Qualification
Required
Deep experience with Inconel, Titanium, Copper, Monel, Stainless Steel
Advanced GD&T interpretation
Optimize processes for risk reduction, tool life, cycle time, and part stability
Strong judgment in risk-heavy machining scenarios
Documented record of first-article success on difficult parts
Exceptional fixture/work-holding design capability
Demonstrated reduction of scrap and iteration cycles
Recognized internally as a machining authority
Demonstrated mastery of extreme geometries and difficult alloys
Proven ability to stabilize 'no-margin' machining scenarios
Trusted with the most failure-sensitive hardware
