Loan Underwriter (PH)
Esusu is a financial technology and data platform focused on building credit access for all. The Loan Underwriter will be responsible for credit decisioning and risk assessment across Esusu’s loan products, ensuring decisions are consistent and aligned with program policies.

Responsibilities
Receive, review, and evaluate loan applications as they come up and ensure they are processed as per established company procedures and policies
Assess each loan applicant’s credit risk profile and help build out a risk scorecard
Re-assess risk when policies come up for renewal
Help drive critical business decisions by analyzing metrics and designing reports in a timely manner
Keep internal Esusu team members updated on unresolved requests and responsively identify trends
Support with administrative and other reporting tasks for the team, including disbursements and repayments updates, as well as general administrative duties as assigned
Work with the Loan Manager and Data team on improving underwriting criteria and suggesting process improvements
Use internal systems and AI‑powered tools (for example, to summarize case data, support document checks, or prioritize queues) to increase speed and consistency, while exercising independent judgment on final decisions. Provide structured feedback that helps improve these tools over time
Qualification
Required
At least 2 years of experience in credit underwriting or similar risk roles (e.g., consumer lending, installment loans, BNPL/pay‑over‑time, microfinance, or related credit products)
Solid knowledge of banking or lending procedures, financial documentation, and experience working with digital financial systems or loan platforms
Demonstrated ability to handle confidential data in an ethical, professional manner and familiarity with working under defined legal, compliance, and privacy standards
Experience working in a high‑volume environment where accuracy, consistency, and adherence to SLAs are critical
Experience with, or strong interest in, AI‑driven tools for fraud/identity checks, document analysis, queue optimization, or reporting
Clear Communication. You communicate clearly and professionally in English—both in writing and speaking—with strong listening and comprehension skills suited to a remote, global team

Attention to detail. You are thorough and efficient with a keen eye for detail. You notice inconsistencies across applications, documents, and system data—even at higher volumes—and know when to dig deeper
Analytical. You are a critical thinker who can collect and synthesize information from multiple sources, identify patterns, and make timely, grounded eligibility decisions. You are comfortable with spreadsheets, dashboards, and data‑driven discussions. Digital and AI fluency. You are comfortable working with new tools and systems and are curious about using AI and automation to improve your work. You learn quickly, provide thoughtful feedback on tools, and can integrate them into your day‑to‑day without losing sight of risk controls and fairness
Flexibility. You are comfortable working the night shift. The working hours for this position are 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST, so you will need to be online and reachable during this time
