Responsibilities

Undertake both theoretical and applied research in orbital mechanics and space GNC problems in low earth orbit to cislunar domains
Apply and extend the state-of-the-art algorithms and numerical methods for solving practical problems in applications such as trajectory and mission design/optimization, orbit determination, navigation and attitude control, station keeping, maneuver transfer and proximity operations
Implement and benchmark algorithms for selected use case(s) in relevant simulation environment
Disseminate research results through reports, conference proceedings, and peer-reviewed articles, and developing intellectual property

Required

Pursuing MS/PhD in Aerospace/Astronautical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related field and should not graduate prior to September 2026
Expertise and research experience in orbital mechanics, spacecraft dynamics, estimation and controls, dynamical systems, with knowledge in optimization, uncertainty quantification, and machine learning
Experience with Python, MATLAB, C++, or other programming languages and collaborative software development tools (e.g. Git)
Proficient in programming languages, packages and tools used in orbital mechanics research (e.g., GMAT, SPICE)
U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required

Preferred

Previous experience with practical applications in these fields
A record of innovation as evidenced by high-quality journal and conference publications
Ability to look at open-ended tough problems as an opportunity to innovate and develop novel solutions
Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills with a proven ability to work collaboratively, adapt, innovate, and take initiative in achieving results
Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment to accomplish project goals
