Project Controls Engineer: Department of Energy Programs
AcceleratedPM is seeking a Project Controls Engineer to support DOE/NNSA capital construction work in a high-consequence environment. This role provides integrated project controls support across schedule, cost, and earned value, focusing on performance analysis, forecasting, and concise reporting for Federal project leadership and senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Perform schedule management, progress measurement/reporting, schedule forecasting, and corrective action support
Review contractor cost and schedule performance; develop findings/analysis/recommendations for Federal project leadership; identify critical activities requiring attention and action
Produce Primavera P6-based reports providing essential status information (schedule, man-hours, cost, EVM metrics, fiscal data), including statistical reports that analyze, evaluate, and forecast performance against baselines
Support the monthly status cycle, including variance explanations and executive-ready inputs for briefings
Assess the impacts of design and construction changes, including cost and schedule impacts
Provide guidance and specialized assistance for resolution of complex project controls issues; support compliance with applicable DOE project execution requirements (e.g., DOE O 413.3B)
Maintain and use historical planning data (e.g., duration metrics, performance history) to support realistic forecasting and future planning
Interface with project personnel to obtain periodic status updates on budget, progress, forecasts, schedule status, and issues
Track and report project costs and provide financial support for program/project status reviews with senior stakeholders
Support oversight of risk management activities, including risk registers, mitigations, and management reserve/contingency usage
Qualification
Required
U.S. Citizenship required (position supports DOE/NNSA work with clearance eligibility requirements)
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance (active Q is a plus)
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
4+ years of project controls experience supporting large construction projects ($100M+)
4+ years using Primavera P6
4+ years as an end user of Deltek Cobra
Experience performing, monitoring, and reviewing planning and scheduling functions (development, control, analysis)
Experience supporting cost and performance analysis in both field and home office settings
Strong written/oral communication skills, including ability to translate analysis into clear leadership-ready messaging
Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and consistently meet aggressive deadlines
Willingness and ability to travel (~20%)
Preferred
Active DOE Q clearance
Experience supporting DOE or NNSA capital construction projects
Familiarity with DOE Order 413.3B (or similar DOE capital project execution environments)
Experience developing schedule/cost performance reporting for executive-level audiences
Power BI (or similar dashboarding) experience
Relevant credentials (e.g., PMP, PMI-SP, EVP, AACE certifications such as CCP/CEP)
Experience supporting risk management (risk registers, mitigation tracking, MR/contingency usage)
