Mechanical Engineer
Sterling Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of advanced automation systems and tooling. This role involves overseeing the full lifecycle of projects, from concept to production, while providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior designers.
Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical design of advanced automation systems, equipment, and tooling, integrating mechanical and pneumatic systems
Create high-level concepts, layouts, and specifications for new automation and upgrades to existing equipment
Oversee detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings, ensuring designs are accurate, buildable, and production-ready
Drive prototype development, testing, and refinement to optimize reliability, efficiency, and cost
Manage project timelines, workflows, and technical communication across engineering and manufacturing teams
Perform design reviews, validate compliance, and implement improvements based on testing and production feedback
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior designers and project team members
Support continuous improvement and lifecycle evolution of equipment and automation platforms
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
3+ years of mechanical design experience in manufacturing or automation environments
Strong 3D CAD expertise (SolidWorks preferred), including complex assemblies and machine design
Proven experience designing complete machines, automation systems, robotics, or integrated production equipment
Confidence leading projects independently and collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, and leadership teams
