LIGHT EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

Responsibilities
Operates dump trucks, snowplows with salt/sand spreader and wings, snowblowers, and other attachments to maintain roadways during winter and summer seasons
Repairs gravel and hard-surface roads by grading, patching, repairing frost boils, and responding to weather-related damage
Performs drainage maintenance, including ditch grading, culvert installation or flushing, erosion control, seeding, and mowing
Clears trees, brush, and debris using chainsaws, skid loaders, mowers, and herbicides; removes dead animals and dumped materials from rights-of-way
Conducts daily inspections and scheduled maintenance of equipment, including oil changes, fluid checks, tire maintenance, and minor mechanical repairs
Uses tablets and software applications to input GIS data, complete work reports, clock in/out, submit time off, and locate infrastructure needs like culverts and signage
Sets up work zone traffic control, including flagging operations, placement of signage, barriers, and road closure notifications
Assists with bridge deck repair, asphalt work, hot mix installation, and other surface treatments using rollers, patch buggies, and hand tools
Safely loads, transports, and unloads materials and equipment using dump trucks, trailers, and other assigned vehicles
Qualification
Required
A minimum of one (1) year of equipment operation experience in the construction and/or maintenance of roads, driveways, or parking lots using current day practices required
Experience must include operation of dump trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating of 35,000 lbs. or greater
One (1) year experience plowing snow using a truck with adjustable plow required
Must possess a valid state of Iowa Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no air brake, manual transmission or tractor-trailer restrictions and a tank endorsement; or possession of Class A CDL and the ability to pass air brake, manual transmission, tractor-trailer restrictions and a tank endorsement within ninety (90) days of transfer or hire into the position
Preferred
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
May be required to obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License
