Hardware (Electrical) Engineer

Shift5 is redefining the future of onboard operational technology (OT) and seeks a Hardware (Electrical) Engineer to design and develop cutting-edge hardware for their Intake product team. The role involves the full hardware development lifecycle, including component selection, schematic capture, and PCB design/layout, while ensuring compliance with military and aerospace standards.

Responsibilities

Design and develop cutting-edge hardware for the Intake product team
Manage the full hardware development lifecycle, from component selection and schematic capture to PCB design/layout
Design and rigorously test electrical boards to demanding military and aerospace standards, including MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-1275, and DO-160
Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to create compact, cost-effective, and high-performance assemblies
Analyze existing systems and identify improvements
Build and test prototypes, ensuring designs meet specifications, cost, reliability, and safety factors

Required

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
3+ years of experience (7+ years for Senior) with schematic design of circuit boards to military standards
Proven experience with testing to MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-1275, and DO-160 standards using test equipment like oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers
Experience with FPGA board design
Knowledge of manufacturing/production processes and experience in an AS9100/ISO9001 certified environment
Familiarity with MIL, DO, and IPC standards
Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills

Preferred

PCB design and layout experience highly preferred
Experience in an AS9100 certified environment is highly valued
Proficiency in Electrical CAD software (Altium preferred)
