Responsibilities
Perform heat treatment processes on a variety of materials, including metals and alloys, to achieve desired properties such as hardness, toughness, and corrosion resistance
Interpret work orders, blueprints, and specifications to determine the appropriate heat treatment methods, temperatures, and durations for each job
Set up and operate heat treatment equipment, such as furnaces, ovens, and quenching tanks, ensuring they are calibrated and maintained according to industry standards
Monitor and control the heating, soaking, and cooling cycles to achieve precise temperature profiles and material properties
Conduct hardness and microstructure tests, using specialized tools and equipment, to verify that materials meet specified standards
Perform visual inspections to identify any defects or irregularities in materials before and after heat treatment
Troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise during the heat treatment process, making adjustments as necessary to maintain quality
Document all heat treatment processes, including temperature logs, equipment maintenance records, and quality control reports
Adhere to safety protocols, industry regulations, and company policies to ensure a safe working environment
Collaborate with quality control and engineering teams to ensure that heat-treated materials meet customer requirements and industry standards
Keep abreast of advancements in heat treatment technology and materials science, incorporating best practices into daily operations
Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring that tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained
Participate in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge related to heat treatment processes
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certifications in metallurgy, heat treatment, or a related field is preferred
Proven experience as a Heat Treat Technician or in a similar role, with expertise in heat treatment processes and equipment
Strong knowledge of metallurgical principles, phase transformations, and material properties. Proficiency in using heat treatment equipment and specialized tools
Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time to service client locations
Ability to lift, carry, push or pull 75 pounds or more as necessary with the correct support
Travel requirements 50-75% including overnight travel outside of the region may be required
Must be local to the greater Pittsburgh area
Preferred
Additional education or certifications in metallurgy, heat treatment, or a related field
