Permitting & Compliance Specialist – Renewable Natural Gas (RNG)

Responsibilities
Assisting with the coordination of the environmental and construction permitting process for all US WAGABOX® projects from the initial stages of development through project completion in coordination with internal project delivery and operations & maintenance teams
Participating in the collaborative effort of preparing permit applications, modifications, and approvals
Supporting the ongoing maintenance, renewal, and modification of operating permits
Managing permitting requirements related to stormwater, leachate management, and landfill gas operations
Monitoring applicable regulatory requirements including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and RCRA for landfills, as well as related state and local programs
Tracking permit conditions, compliance obligations, and regulatory deadlines to ensure continuous compliance across all US WAGABOX® sites
Preparing required environmental compliance reports for federal, state, and local agencies
Conducting internal compliance audits and risk assessments to identify potential non-compliance or regulatory risks
Developing and implementing corrective action plans and mitigation strategies to address identified risks and audit findings
Maintaining accurate and complete compliance records, documentation, and audit support materials
Advising internal teams on permitting strategy, compliance requirements, and regulatory risks
Communicating regulatory expectations, permit conditions, and compliance requirements clearly and effectively across internal teams
Assisting with the coordination of compliance activities with external stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and landfill partners as needed
Contributing to continuous improvement of internal permitting and compliance processes as US operations expand
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree in environmental science, construction management, regulatory compliance, environmental health and safety, engineering, physical/natural sciences, or a closely related technical discipline
A minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental permitting and regulatory compliance for industrial, energy, infrastructure, or waste-related facilities
Demonstrated experience managing air, water, and solid waste permitting and compliance obligations for operating facilities
Understanding of solid waste regulations, specifically landfill gas and leachate management
Working knowledge of federal/state/local building codes (IBC) and applicable environmental regulations, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, and relevant state and local programs
Experience coordinating permit applications, renewals, modifications, and approvals with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies including, building and land use permits, air quality permits, Title V operating permits, environmental permits, noise and nuisance permits, and New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) for landfills
Proven ability to track permit conditions, compliance deadlines, and reporting requirements across multiple sites/projects
Strong technical writing skills, including preparation of permit applications, regulatory correspondence, and compliance reports
Excellent organizational, documentation, and record-keeping skills, including audit preparation and regulatory file management
Experience interpreting environmental monitoring data and assessing compliance with permit and regulatory requirements
Ability to conduct internal compliance audits and risk assessments and develop corrective action or mitigation plans
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple regulatory workstreams simultaneously
Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to clearly explain regulatory requirements to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal team members as well as regulatory agencies and other external parties
Self-motivated, accountable professional who takes ownership of assigned responsibilities while collaborating within a global, multidisciplinary team
Comfort working independently while exercising sound judgment and escalating issues appropriately
Preferred
Knowledge of landfill gas collection systems and renewable natural gas (RNG) processing technologies
Familiarity with pipeline interconnection requirements and gas quality specifications
Familiarity with operational certifications for renewable natural gas (RNG) facilities and similar RNG-related certifications and regulatory programs
Experience working in a multi-national, multi-site organization
