Responsibilities
Manage assigned projects in accordance with approved scope, schedule, and budget
Lead and coordinate project teams to deliver high-quality bridge and structural design solutions
Provide technical and structural engineering expertise throughout all phases of the project lifecycle, from preliminary design through construction
Oversee development of construction plans and related submittal documents
Develop project-specific management and quality plans
Create, maintain, and manage project schedules
Identify, engage, and manage subconsultants
Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies
Prepare and manage extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals
Communicate project status, risks, and updates to internal and external stakeholders
Prepare progress reports, review invoices, and participate in project financial status meetings
Build and maintain strong client relationships to understand requirements and ensure successful project delivery
Develop and lead project status presentations
Collaborate with internal disciplines and subconsultants to develop well-defined, risk-averse project scopes and fees
Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to project team members through regular check-ins and performance feedback
Support staff development by setting goals, conducting one-on-one meetings, and sharing lessons learned
Assist office and practice leadership with marketing efforts, including go/no-go decisions, proposal development, and interviews
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
10 or more years of experience in bridge and structural design
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong presentation and client-facing skills
Preferred
Experience working with VDOT and Virginia localities or agencies
Experience with multiple project delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, and P3
Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams
