Director of Enterprise Architecture

Responsibilities

Support & Stand‑In Leadership
EA takes a holistic and strategic view and will help and coordinate cross functionally across the applications, infrastructure and security teams
Will be expected to lead governance forums, present in executive meetings, and make context‑aware decisions aligned to enterprise priorities
Maintain an integrated view of EA services, deliverables, and dependencies to provide timely guidance, unblock execution, and sustain momentum
Communicate EA’s value proposition and progress to business and IT stakeholders, reinforcing buy‑in and accountability
Evolve EA Charter, Services & Value Proposition
Co‑author and adapt the EA charter, service portfolio, and engagement model to reflect changing business strategies and stakeholder needs
Position EA as a strategic partner that informs digital and technology strategy and guides modernization and transformation decisions
Team Development & Enablement
Build and manage a collaborative bench of enterprise, business, and IT architects; mentor in storytelling, design thinking, and consultative influence
Plan resources, develop role paths/competencies, and cultivate a culture of learning, experimentation, and continuous improvement
Operating Model & Governance
Design and adapt the EA operating model (structure, decision rights, governance) to support agility and democratized decision making
Implement adaptive governance—guardrails, standards, platforms, and embedded controls—to empower delivery teams while maintaining strategic alignment
Define and track EA ODMs aligned to enterprise/CIO metrics; integrate EA processes with business and IT operations
Trendspotting, Scenario Planning & Risk
Assess TPESTRE trends (technological, political, economic, social/cultural, trust/ethics, regulatory/legal, environmental) and translate implications for strategy and architecture
Facilitate scenario planning, identify emerging threats/opportunities (including non‑traditional competitors), and anchor innovation in business/operating model realities
Technology Modernization & Portfolio Rationalization
Lead current‑state analyses and future‑state roadmaps; identify gaps and recommend investments that balance speed, cost, and risk
Reduce technical debt using pragmatic models (e.g., PAID/TIME) and ensure modernization plans fit project‑ and product‑delivery contexts
Articulate cost/benefit profiles to business and IT stakeholders to enable informed investment decisions
Enable Solution Delivery & Reuse
Establish principles, patterns, standards, and minimum‑viable architectures that reflect business strategy and corporate governance
Partner with product management, infrastructure, data & analytics, and PMO leaders to align roadmaps and encourage reuse of shared platforms and capabilities
Provide consumable reference architectures that enable safe, rapid experimentation with emerging technologies
Connect Strategy to Execution
Facilitate business/IT alignment through capability and value‑stream mapping; orchestrate cross‑functional delivery of future‑state architectures
Produce diagnostic, intuitive, and timely business‑architecture guidance that informs investment choices and operating‑model changes (including generative AI considerations)
Internal Consultancy & Stakeholder Engagement
Operate EA as an internal consultancy—tailoring services to stakeholder needs and leading outcome‑driven conversations with product and line leaders
Build and lead an architect “guild” and work through strategic committees/boards to resolve cross‑product conflicts in favor of enterprise outcomes

Required

Bachelor's or master's degree in business, computer science/engineering, systems analysis or related field (or equivalent experience)
Minimum of 8 years of experience in enterprise architecture, strategy/operations planning, or adjacent disciplines; experience across multiple architecture domains (business, information, solution, technical), application development, data, and operations
Demonstrated leadership in matrixed environments, with a track record of influencing executives and guiding complex initiatives
Strong analytical, verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Well organized, detail oriented with ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while managing multiple concurrent tasks
Competency in MS Windows, MS Word, and MS Outlook
Strong work ethic and willingness to take ownership
Ability to work independently
Ad-hoc responsibilities as assigned
Travel up to ____% as needed

Preferred

Knowledge of modern ecosystems and patterns: SaaS, IaaS, PaaS, APIs, microservices, event‑driven architectures, data/analytics
Familiarity with information management, SDLC, IT service management, agile/lean, I&O, EA/ITIL frameworks; scaled agile principles
Awareness of emerging technologies (including generative AI) and their business applications
Proficiency with EA tooling, modeling approaches, and repository management; strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills; excellent written and verbal communication
