Responsibilities
Review files requiring Extensions, Dismissals, Probate matters, Death Certificates, and Special Administrator/Personal Representative Defendant Substitutions
Draft a variety of court pleadings related to Extensions, Trial Scheduling, Dismissals, Probate, Death Certificates, and Special Administrator/Personal Representative Substitutions
Prepare and file Land Court Petitions Noting Death as needed
Oversee the handling of both Formal and Informal Probate matters in collaboration with the assigned Probate Attorney
Manage the calendaring of all hearings, deadlines, and key dates associated with assigned tasks
Coordinate publication requirements and payments for Probate‑related notices and orders
Assist the Litigation Paralegal with contested matters, including drafting pleadings and managing litigation calendars
Participate in cross‑training for Extensions and Trial Scheduling and transition responsibilities as tasks are reassigned
Begin training on additional paralegal duties involving drafting and preparing various court motions and orders as Extension work shifts
Request documents from courts and communicate with court personnel as needed or directed
Obtain records from the Bureau of Conveyances, Department of Health, and other state or federal agencies on a case‑by‑case basis
Submit requests for additional fees when necessary
Communicate directly with clients via phone, email, and client portals in a professional and timely manner
Monitor client portals and Morty Tracking Pages daily, updating information as appropriate
Contribute to team success by supporting related tasks and performing other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
3+ years Legal Assistant experience
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Access and Adobe Acrobat
Minimum typing speed 50 wpm
Operate copiers, scanning equipment, postage machine and multi-line phones
