The New York State Education Department’s Office of Special Education is seeking candidates for an Administrative Specialist 1 position in the High School Equivalency Office. This role involves reviewing and formatting documents, providing training to staff, overseeing office processes, and managing subscriptions and translations related to OSE documents.

Responsibilities

Final review, editing, and formatting of assignments, correspondence, and reports, (i.e., memos, letters, Request for Proposals, manuals, Regents items, guidance documents, etc.) prior to submission to supervisors or management, as appropriate
Provide training and support for Office of Special Education (OSE) Administrative Unit staff specific to preparation of OSE documents
Oversee officewide travel and FOIL processes
Oversee the purchasing and procurement of OSE Albany-based units and provide training, guidance and support to staff responsible for purchasing in OSE Regional Units statewide
Manage OSE subscriptions, including purchasing, establishing and maintaining contacts with subscription agencies, managing enrollment of staff, and distributing materials to staff
Manage actions related to translation of OSE documents and requests for interpreter services
Support the development and maintenance of OSE website, including preparing, formatting and posting timely and accessible information and documents on the website
Ensure emails received in public facing mailbox are assigned and responded to in a timely manner; and
Provide administrative support to Administrative Specialist 2 as assigned

Required

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree or higher
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree or higher AND either: One year of professional experience; OR a Juris Doctor, master's or higher degree in a field related to the position being filled
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree or higher AND either: Two years of professional experience; OR a Juris Doctor, master's or higher degree in a field related to the position being filled AND one year of professional experience
Professional experience must be performing the duties of the full performance level position
Candidates must possess a current 55b/c eligibility letter and the following minimum qualifications: Candidates must have a bachelor's degree or higher
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree or higher AND either: One year of professional experience; OR a Juris Doctor, master's or higher degree in a field related to the position being filled
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree or higher AND either: Two years of professional experience; OR a Juris Doctor, master's or higher degree in a field related to the position being filled AND one year of professional experience
