Manufacturing Soft Goods Technician

Responsibilities

Assist in the development, documentation, and verification of soft goods manufacturing processes
Fabricate, assemble, and test soft goods prototypes and production hardware
Oversee and support soft goods fabrication and assembly activities in a production environment
Provide backup support to Manufacturing Engineering as needed
Diagnose product and process issues, clearly documenting and communicating findings
Perform quality inspections and verification through final product acceptance
Create patterns from existing components and/or engineering drawings and specifications
Build and assemble flight train components, including ladders, parachute sleeves, and Stratocraft assemblies
Support load testing activities for flight train systems
Provide hands-on support to build across multiple work cells as required
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and production teams to meet schedule and production goals
Participate in continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives to improve efficiency and quality
Safely lift and move objects up to 40 lbs., regularly bend, stoop, and perform other physical tasks associated with manufacturing work

Required

Minimum 1 year of experience operating industrial sewing machines; experience in aerospace, aviation, automotive, or marine environments preferred
Experience working in Foreign Object Damage (FOD)–controlled environments
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and work instructions
Basic technical skills in soft goods fabrication, repair, and assembly, with the ability to work with limited supervision
Ability to identify quality issues and report nonconforming parts to a supervisor
Mechanical aptitude with experience repairing, refurbishing, or modifying soft goods components
Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and inventory tracking
Comfortable using computers for data entry, manufacturing systems, and recordkeeping
Flexible and adaptable to changing production needs; willing to learn new processes and tools
Time management skills and ability to meet production deadlines
Clear communication skills and ability to work well with supervisors and teammates
Knowledge of workplace safety practices, including OSHA guidelines and proper use of PPE
Experience with sewing, textiles, webbing, heat sealing, and use of fabrication tools

Preferred

Experience working with stratospheric balloon systems or high-altitude flight hardware
Hands-on experience with sewing, heat sealing, and/or ultrasonic sealing processes
Experience operating or supporting automated manufacturing systems
Parachute rigger experience or equivalent hands-on rigging background
