Pressure System Engineer
SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a Pressure Systems Engineer for the Accelerator Directorate to ensure efficient and reliable operation of its accelerator facilities. The role involves the design, specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning of pressure systems, along with support for existing systems.

Responsibilities
Provide technical expertise in pressure system design and operation
Ensure all pressure systems and associated structural components are specified, designed, manufactured, tested, and installed according to applicable regulations, standards, and project / SLAC requirements
Perform and document engineering analyses of pressure systems and associated structural components (stress analysis, thermal analysis, pressure drop / line sizing, relief valve sizing, etc)
Manage small pressure system / structural projects from conception through design, manufacturing, construction, field installation, and commissioning
Support development and updates of system Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
Lead the development of pressure system general arrangements and 3D models
Coordinate integration of pressure systems with all interested parties and interfaces (Infrastructure, Controls, etc)
Manage pressure system vendors (including their technical design, schedule, quality, etc)
Specify and manage inspection, testing, and maintenance of new and existing pressure systems
Prepare cost estimates and schedules to support planning and reporting requirements
Coordinate technical activities across multiple disciplines, oversee the work of others, and provide guidance to technical staff during design, construction, field installation, and commissioning
Proactively comply with all SLAC environmental, safety, and health (ES&H) requirements
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related technical field plus at least two years of directly applicable, progressively responsible work experience in the following described areas: Pressure system design and construction to applicable ASME codes
Process safety analysis and implementation
Analytical techniques including structural / stress, thermal, fluid flow, etc
Collaborating to understand complex problems and exploring / implementing alternative solutions
Engineering project management, including developing cost estimates and project schedules, and driving a complex project through completion
Demonstrated expertise in designing for constructability
Ability to work productively with other engineers, designers, technicians, fabricators, and procurement personnel within and outside of the department
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Meticulous recording and documentation skills
Preferred
Experience in cryogenic pressure system design and operation
Experience in designing pressure systems and associated supports for seismic loads
Experience in 3D solid modeling
Experience in the coordination of technical activities during the construction phase of a project
Experience applying reliability and/or quality assurance best practices
