RSES Space Weather Intern
Analytical Mechanics Associates is seeking early career professionals to support NASA on the Research, Science, and Engineering Service contract at NASA Langley Research Center. The role involves contributing to Space Weather projects, including predicting impacts on communication disruptions and monitoring Mars' space environment.
Research
Responsibilities
Define project objectives and develop a work plan based on user needs
Retrieve heliophysics observations, tools, models and conduct feasibility studies
Meet regularly with science advisors and users
Generate the final products such as time series and maps, to support user’s decision-making processes
Produce deliverables including presentation slides, posters, and tech reports
Present projects to the user community, NASA scientists and management teams
Qualification
Required
At least 18 years of age by the start of the term (June 1, 2026)
Demonstrated experiences and skills in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Atmosphere, Space Science, Planetary Science, Aerospace, Geospatial Science, or a related field
Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (either cumulative or most recent) from the current or most recent institution of higher learning
U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) status is required due to project requirement
Ability to provide personal transportation to and from the NASA Langley Research Center
Expected to work in person at NASA Langley Research Center up to 29 hours per week during regular business hours (typically 9 AM – 5 PM, Monday through Thursday)
Passion for Space Weather and Human Explorations
Eagerness to learn new skills from peers and subject matter experts
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred
Knowledge of Remote Sensing, Aeronomy, Space Weather, and Planetary Science
Basic coding experience with any programming language such as Python, Matlab, IDL, R, Java, C, or Fortran
Familiarity with data analysis and visualization
Some knowledge of geospatial tools such as ArcGIS, ENVI, or QGIS
