The GI Technician / Health Unit Coordinator supports patient care and clinical operations in the Ambulatory Surgery Center by assisting with procedures, managing documentation, and ensuring a patient-friendly environment.

Responsibilities
Prepare procedure rooms and equipment prior to procedures to ensure readiness and efficiency
Assist physicians during procedures and support post-procedure patient care under RN supervision
Collect and document patient-related data to support RN assessments
Transport patients as directed throughout the ASC
Properly handle, transport, clean, disinfect, and reprocess scopes and related endoscopic equipment in accordance with OSHA standards and guidelines
Perform cleaning and high-level disinfection of endoscopic equipment and maintain accurate reprocessing and disinfecting logs
Maintain adequate inventory of chemicals, supplies, and equipment for reprocessing and procedure rooms
Assist with room turnaround, setup, cleaning, and restocking to optimize room efficiency
Prepare complete patient charts for daily physician procedure schedules
Maintain an accurate daily procedure schedule and schedule return office appointments as needed
Scan documents and images into the electronic medical record (EMR)
Answer incoming calls and provide clerical support, including faxing, photocopying, collating, and mail distribution
Maintain fax systems and office equipment
Order and maintain office, room, and clinical supplies
Maintain a clean, organized workstation and shared work areas
Communicate openly and effectively with physicians, nurses, coworkers, patients, and families
Promote a patient- and employee-friendly environment
Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and ASC policies and procedures
Recognize and respond to emergency situations in accordance with policy
Maintain a safe working environment
Demonstrate willingness to learn and grow in GI anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and procedures
All other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or equivalent
Patient-care first approach with strong attention to detail
Strong communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle stressful situations with compassion and professionalism
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, family members, physicians, co-workers, and outside customers
Demonstrate empathy, clinical judgement, and practice-based learning
BLS certification – ability to obtain once hired
Willingness and ability to travel to other GI Associates locations as needed to support operational needs
Able to sit, stand, walk, kneel, bend, reach and stoop throughout entire shift to accomplish tasks
Able to push, pull, lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally
Able to work through interruptions, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
This role involves at times using cleaning and disinfecting chemicals to clean scopes
Able to use the phone and basic computer functions as part of job duties for daily tasks and communications
Preferred
Previous Healthcare experience preferred
Previous gastroenterology experience preferred
