Responsibilities

Apply strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to help support state priority areas, including fraud prevention, health & wellness, and Social Security
Participate in team meetings and strategy discussions, collaborate on communications tactics, and engage in a support role for various remote and in-person events
Enhance event participation by assisting with event marketing and promotion through social media and other platforms to tell the story about AARP Tennessee’s work
Assist with building communications campaigns, drafting press releases, event promotion, social media presence, and other materials for internal and external channels
Assist in planning, scripting, production, and editing video projects and online content
Engage in strategic communications outreach to internal and external audiences, including media relations
Design event/program fliers, graphics, and other material
Work with AARP volunteers and community partners to amplify storytelling initiatives

Required

Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university, rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students, and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship, or must have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program
Pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, journalism, gerontology, political science, policy, or related fields
Must be a self-starter and adaptable, with the ability to work under tight deadlines
Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities
Ability to work well with diverse populations, including age, race, and sexual orientation
Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
Experience with end-to-end video production, including planning, shooting video, editing, and file delivery for appropriate platforms
Regular and reliable job attendance
Exhibit respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationships
Independent judgment in evaluation options to make sound decisions
Home office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate home environment noise
