Responsibilities

Lead preparation, tracking, and reporting of operating and special project/program budgets, and provide strategic insights to unit leadership
Develop and oversee complex budget and financial reports for unit and individual departments. Ensure accuracy and compliance
Provide advanced guidance in developing project and program budget plans and projections for activities supported by various funding streams: revenue, grants, gifts, and mixed funding programs
Prepare and interpret periodic and ad hoc accounting-related reports using data from university systems, including Banner, EDDIE, and/or Tableau. Develop and apply financial and operating models, including cost-recovery and service-rate calculations
Exercise independent judgment in coordinating and approving transactions such as budget transfers, journal vouchers, etc., to maintain accurate financial records
Maintain and monitor financial records for designated staff and programs; identify and resolve discrepancies proactively
Review and approve transactions in various systems such as iBuy, Banner, and Chrome River; ensure compliance with university policies
Advise faculty, staff, and students on college, departmental, and campus business policies and procedures, including procedures for purchasing, submitting expense reimbursements, business travel, and other related activities
Oversee accounts receivable for revenue-generating projects and programs, ensuring compliance and financial stability
Draft and review revenue and other contracts; coordinate approval process requests with program staff and university offices
Manage revenue program accounting, ensuring compliance with contract, university guidelines, and general accounting principles. Prepare and analyze reports regarding project budgets, projections, and expenditures
In consultation with program staff, develop and issue invoices to university customers
Resolve issues related to accounting, record keeping, and other activities. Research and respond to inquiries from customers, departments, and System offices
Act as a senior resource for EBSC staff in interpreting and applying university policies, procedures, and practices
Represent EBSC on committees and working groups; lead special projects aimed at improving financial efficiency and transparency
Mentor and guide staff on financial processes and policy interpretation
Perform other related duties

Required

Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a field related to the position
Three (3) years of professional business, financial, and/or managerial work experience
Demonstrated experience applying fund accounting principles and budget modeling, in a university setting
Demonstrated fiscal oversight experience
Excellent interpersonal skills, strong oral, and written communications
Ability to concurrently manage multiple complex tasks and an aptitude for learning new skills, tools, and processes
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and possess a strong commitment to the concept of shared services
Strong organizational and time management skills
Commitment to customer service

Preferred

Minimum of three years of progressive work experience at the University of Illinois in a position requiring fiscal oversight, including experience with business policies, procedures, and financial systems
