Program Research Specialist 2 Criminal Justice (CJ)

New York State Center for Recruitment & Public Service is seeking a Program Research Specialist 2 to join their Statistical Analysis unit. The role involves evaluating and reporting on the impact of legislation and agency initiatives on incarcerated populations, utilizing advanced statistical techniques and software for data analysis and presentation.
Government Administration

Responsibilities

Evaluate and report on the impact of legislation, policy, and agency initiatives and operations on the incarcerated individual and releasee populations
Analyzing DOCCS data with advanced statistical techniques using statistical software programs such as Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Stata
Presentation of tabular and graphical data in Excel, dashboard data in Tableau and associated written reports
Collaborating on the planning and design of research projects
Being well-versed in appropriate research methodologies and statistical techniques
Research topics may include the impact of legislative initiatives and population projections
Supervisory responsibilities of Program Research Specialist I staff may also be required

Required

must have a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by NINE semester credit hours in statistics, biostatistics, economics, econometrics, research methods, mathematics, data analysis, or data modeling
three years of professional research experience in the collection and evaluation of quantitative data directed toward review and analysis of criminal justice system topics, including crime; criminal justice trends; adult and youth case processing; incarceration; community supervision; recidivism; offender risk and/or reentry; correctional programming and impact of programming on crime factors; and/or performance indicators developed by State criminal justice agencies
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred

supervisory experience
professional experience designing and conducting criminal justice research
proficiency using SPSS or Stata for advanced data analysis
proficiency with Tableau or other visualization software to create data visualizations

Telecommuting: two days per week may be possible after six months of successful employment.
