Permit Technician I
The City of Plano is seeking dependable and detail-oriented individuals to join the Building Inspections Department as Permit Technician I. In this role, you will serve as the initial point of contact for customers and help maintain the accuracy and integrity of the City’s building permitting process.

Responsibilities
Assists contractors and citizens with requests for information regarding department procedures and City ordinances; provides assistance with public information requests
Processes basic permit applications; issues permits and collects fees; prints completed permits and notifies customers of permit status; enters data into the computer system
Assists with administrative duties including, but not limited to, data entry, filing, answering the telephone, and cash reconciliation
Determines appropriate fees for permits and contractor registration
Receives telephone requests, researches request and inquiries, and assists with resolving inquiries
Provides administrative support to work unit
Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Knowledge of City building codes and ordinances
Knowledge of methods and procedures used in the collection and reporting of cash assets
Knowledge of data entry policies and procedures
Knowledge of record formats
Knowledge of how to organize data using appropriated software
Knowledge of office procedures and policies
Skill in communicating clearly both verbally and in writing
Skill in completing arithmetic calculations using basic mathematical formulas
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent
Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check
Preferred
One (1) year of customer services experience preferred
