Manager, Software Development Engineering

Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and coach engineering teams to deliver high-quality software with empathy and effectiveness, fostering strong collaboration across Product, QA, and Automation teams
Own end-to-end delivery for complex, multi-release initiatives in the Compensation domain, balancing delivery speed, quality, and sustainable technical health
Partner closely with Product and cross-functional partners to translate business requirements into technical execution, and align on priorities and commitments
Drive engineering excellence by promoting strong design rigor, test automation, operational readiness, and standard methodologies throughout the development lifecycle
Ensure reliability, scalability, compliance, and security of Compensation system with a strong focus on correctness and customer trust
Lead with a growth mindset, using data and metrics to monitor delivery health and team effectiveness, proactively identifying risks and opportunities for improvement
Champion innovation and modern platform practices, including API-first design and extensibility, while encouraging experimentation and continuous improvement
Promote an inclusive, engaged team culture aligned with Workday values, ensuring teams feel energized, supported, and motivated to deliver impactful work
Qualification
Required
3+ years of experience building and directly managing impactful engineering teams
10+ years of software engineering experience
Hands-on experience with programming languages such as C#, Java, or XO
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP)
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering or a related technical field
Preferred
You ensure a psychologically safe environment for team members and have experience supporting career growth and development
You have a proven record of leading effectively across organisational boundaries and can communicate technical complexity in simple terms to non-technical audiences
You are proactive, have a strong sense of ownership, and can deliver on complex and highly technical initiatives with a high degree of autonomy
You have the ability to adopt new technologies quickly and maintain a 'team-first' mentality
Experience leading software development in cloud-native, API-first environments with services spanning web services, integrations, and backend systems (aligned to technical scope)
Demonstrated ability to promote and scale engineering standard methodologies such as test automation, strong design rigor culture
Proven track record of driving reliability, security, and compliance in critically important systems
History of using metrics and data to drive decisions about delivery health, performance, and continuous improvement
A growth-mindset leader who can challenge the status quo and inspire positive change within teams and across organizations
Experience in HCM or Compensation domains is a plus (helpful but not required)
