Summer Intern: Economic Development {Internship} (Job ID: 17-2026-04)
The City of Independence is launching its inaugural Undergraduate Internship program for the Summer of 2026. The Economic Development Department is seeking a Social Media & Digital Content Creation summer intern to assist in creating and managing content for various social media platforms while collaborating with department members to support their mission.

Responsibilities
Assist in planning, creating, and scheduling content for social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram)
Brainstorm and produce original ideas for digital content, including graphics, reels, short videos, and stories
Support video shooting and editing for social media and digital campaigns/related initiatives
Monitor trends, hashtags, and competitor content to inform creative strategy
Help manage content calendars and maintain consistent posting across channels
Create content that results in a positive audience response and participation
Assisting in other daily tasks and projects, as assigned
Collaborate with other City of Independence departments where applicable on a given assignment
Assist with special events
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Actively enrolled at an accredited institution at the Undergraduate level as either a Junior or Senior in the Fall of 2026 semester and graduating no earlier than December 2026
A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and have an average of B or above in the relevant field of study
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools including Word, Excel and Outlook is required
Experience in all major Social Media platforms
Experience in previous Social Media & Digital Content Creation role(s) for an entity, organization, or business
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Enrolled in coursework which is relevant to the Internship opportunity to which they are applying. Applicable majors include Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a field closely related to this role
Interns must be able to see, speak, and hear clearly
Interns will be required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms
Interns will be required to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds when necessary
Interns must be capable of working in both an indoor and outdoor environment under standard Ohio weather conditions
Preferred
Relevant work experience in the field of the Internship is preferred
