Responsibilities
Assist in developing design guidance materials for street improvement permits, including enhanced bus stops, bicycle facilities, and pedestrian plazas
Support preliminary plan review activities for private development projects under staff guidance
Assist with project coordination and content development for the department-wide update of Streets Illustrated, SDOT’s right-of-way design manual
Participate in site visits to help document street conditions, observe public life, evaluate street improvement design alternatives, and summarize outcomes from past projects
Conduct policy and best-practice research on peer jurisdictions and related sectors, as needed
Support ongoing efforts to improve major permitting processes
Qualification
Required
Open to all graduate students enrolled in an accredited 2-year or 4-year educational program
Graduate students must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated research, organizational, and analytical skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Ability to interact professionally and effectively with the public and a diverse range of stakeholders
Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and work independently in a hybrid work environment
Current enrollment in an accredited graduate or professional degree program in planning, public policy, urban design, transportation, engineering, or a related field
