Systems Specialist I/II

The City of Sparks is dedicated to community service and is seeking a Systems Specialist I/II to manage enterprise applications and infrastructure. This role involves ensuring the performance and reliability of critical applications and providing operational support to the IT Administrator.

Responsibilities

Plan, install, configure, update, tune, diagnose, monitor and maintain both internal and third-party applications, virtual desktops, personal computing devices and peripherals, centralized print, file, and application servers, active directory, network accounts, user roles and privileges and security parameters. Partner with external vendors, Information Technology staff and internal customers to ensure computer systems meet City requirements and conform to industry best practices
Coordinate and implement day-to-day operations of the City’s mission critical applications and infrastructure by configuration and tuning. Monitor and maintain enterprise applications and data center infrastructure including servers, networks, storage and security. Ensure application service and system availability
Participate in efforts to implement and maintain application services including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, testing, performance tuning and documentation. Ensure services will operate correctly in current and future environments
Update, maintain and support existing legacy software systems and interfaces to exchange data properly
Manage the implementation, recovery and support of applications and system infrastructure. Act as a subject matter expert in IT systems. Deploy application services and systems. Recommend design changes to enhance efficiency, Security and effectiveness of applications, processes and systems
Manage virtual and physical desktop environment. Analyze and document application and infrastructure problems while working closely with application development team, technical staff and vendors
Troubleshoot problems and assist in the design of polices regarding network access. Perform capacity management, automate processes and develop maintenance schedules. Monitor and respond to equipment and system status messages. Produce operational documentation for use by City staff
Assist with managing the City network. Set-up and configure switches with IP and Fiber Channel ports
Collaborate with City staff, end-users and vendors. Provide support, resolve service requests and document incident and problem resolution outcomes. Provide end-user training. Work with vendors and evaluate vendor products to meet IT and end-user requirements
Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies and industry best practices and knowledge of City policies and procedures related to the work
Initiate primary administration of Active Directory, Azure AD, LDAP and Single Sign-On including support services and technologies such as DNS, Group Policy, OU structures and security delegation models
Proficient usage of Microsoft Windows Server including all official versions and various software and hardware requirements; instruct others in the proper usage of hardware and software. Procure Microsoft licensing, compliance and assist with tune-ups. Ensure systems and processes meet PCI/SOX standards. Execute logical, complex troubleshooting and problem-solving methods in assigned work; identify and resolve complex technical problems, minimize downtime and outages and collaborate with technology team members

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field and one (1) year of experience with installation and maintenance of local area network systems software and hardware
Associates Degree in Information Technology or related field and three (3) years of experience with installation and maintenance of local area network systems software and hardware
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Must possess within thirty (30) days of hire and maintain throughout employment, the equivalent to a valid Nevada Class C driver's license
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field and two (2) years of experience with installation and maintenance of local area network systems software and hardware
Associates Degree in Information Technology or related field and four (4) years of experience with installation and maintenance of local area network systems software and hardware
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Must possess within thirty (30) days of hire and maintain throughout employment, the equivalent to a valid Nevada Class C driver's license
