Senior Embedded Controls Software Engineer - Suspension
General Motors is seeking innovative and team-oriented embedded software engineers to join their Suspension Controls and Software team. The role involves leading the development of embedded controls software for new suspension systems, collaborating with various engineering teams to design, implement, and test high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities
Lead development of embedded controls software for new suspension systems using Lean Agile principles
Architect, design, implement, test, and maintain production C software for controls and diagnostics, meeting GM software quality standards and MISRA guidelines
Partner with Controls Algorithm, Calibration, Systems, and Architecture teams to define requirements and functional/software architectures, including Behavioral Technical Specifications (BTS) and scenario definitions
Develop and maintain software design artifacts, including Software Design Documents (SDDs), Software Implementation Records (SIRs), and traceability from requirements to tests
Own and refine testing strategy (unit and integration), supporting Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD) with clear acceptance criteria and test cases
Contribute to agile delivery, including feature breakdown into stories and tasks, backlog refinement, and participation in scrum/ART ceremonies; collaborate with Product Owner and Scrum Master to deliver features on time and raise risks proactively
Lead or support troubleshooting and defect resolution, working closely with calibration and validation teams to ensure performance across operating conditions
Support technical excellence across the team, including participation in design and algorithm FMEAs, design reviews, demos, and retrospectives; mentor and coach engineers; and champion refactoring, technical debt reduction, and process improvements
Document and help protect Intellectual Property through appropriate internal documentation and disclosures
Qualification
Required
Strong proficiency in C programming and embedded development workflows
Experience with C++ and Python
Experience with unit testing and software component integration testing for embedded systems
DFSS Black Belt Certified
BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other applicable Engineering focuses
Minimum 5+ years Engineering experience with proven technical and professional skills in job-related area
Knowledge of Jira, GIT environment(s); plant modeling and/or analysis tools
Demonstrate problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to technical excellence
Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present complex technical content clearly
Demonstrated ability to lead technical efforts and mentor junior team members
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with sometimes incomplete/changing requirements
Analytical problem-solving skills where problems are unusual and difficult
Demonstrated honesty, integrity, and trust. Lead by example
Preferred
Vehicle Dynamics Experience (Suspension, Steering, or Braking)
MS in Engineering with a focus on software or computer science
Knowledge of Behavior Driven Development and Test-Driven Development
Experience with GM Embedded Controls Development Process
Knowledge of Simulink, MATLAB, and DOORS
Knowledge of SAFe / Agile development, SCRUM ceremonies, and backlog management
Familiarity with automotive diagnostics, calibration tools (e.g., INCA/ETAS), and standards like OBD-II and ASIL
Experience mentoring engineers
Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
Technical achievements in related areas (patents, trade secrets, SAE papers, etc)
