The Sustainability Programs Manager coordinates the implementation and continuous improvement of sustainability initiatives across the district, working collaboratively with various departments to align efforts with educational and operational goals.

Responsibilities
Coordinates the implementation of the District’s Sustainability Plan across schools and departments, translating adopted goals into aligned systems, workflows, and implementation strategies
Develops, maintains, and monitors sustainability performance measures, dashboards, and reporting systems to track progress, support decision-making, and ensure accountability
Partners with school-based staff to support the coordination, resourcing, and evaluation of sustainability education, student engagement, and school-based sustainability efforts
Coordinates districtwide energy management systems’ efficiency in collaboration with facilities staff and utility partners to optimize cost savings and environmental impact
Collects, analyzes, and synthesizes operational, environmental, and programmatic data to evaluate effectiveness, identify trends, and inform continuous improvement
Designs and supports districtwide sustainability systems and processes related to energy, water, transportation, waste, materials management, and sustainability education
Leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of districtwide waste reduction, recycling, composting, and materials management systems
Facilitates cross-department collaboration to align sustainability efforts with operational priorities, capital planning, instructional goals, and fiscal responsibility
Supports schools and departments in implementing sustainability strategies by providing planning tools, guidance, technical assistance, and implementation frameworks
Coordinates sustainability-related projects, pilots, and initiatives, including planning, scheduling, progress monitoring, documentation, and outcome evaluation
Prepares clear, accurate, and accessible communications and coordinates awareness campaigns that support sustainability initiatives
Oversees district compliance systems related to hazardous materials and workplace safety documentation, including required OSHA forms and records (e.g., MST, MSTS, MSDS), in collaboration with various district partners
Maintains partnerships with community organizations, public agencies, utilities, and service providers to support district sustainability goals and leverage external expertise and resources
Supports the evaluation, revision, and development of the District’s Sustainability Plan, including stakeholder engagement, data analysis, goal setting, and implementation design
Monitors emerging best practices, regulatory guidance, and sustainability standards to inform district planning and operational decision-making
Supports grant development, external funding coordination, and reporting requirements related to sustainability initiatives
Performs related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in sustainability, environmental studies, public administration, facilities management, engineering, education, business, a related field OR an equivalent combination of advanced education, specialized training, and professional experience
A history of progressively responsible experience in sustainability programming, environmental management, facilities operations, program management, project leadership, or a closely related field
Demonstrated experience coordinating complex initiatives across multiple departments, teams, or stakeholder groups
Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting performance data to inform planning and continuous improvement
Preferred
Experience working in a K–12 school district, public sector agency, municipality, or similarly complex organization
Experience working with grants, external funding sources, utilities, or public-private partnerships
Professional certifications related to sustainability, project management, energy management, or environmental systems (e.g., LEED, PMP, CEM, ISSP, or similar)
