RESEARCH TECHNICIAN II

Responsibilities

Culture, maintain, and genetically manipulate Cryptococcus strains
Perform standard molecular biology techniques, including PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, and plasmid construction
Carry out yeast transformations, growth assays, and phenotypic characterizations
Maintain detailed and accurate records of experimental procedures and results
Assist in lab maintenance, including inventory management, solution preparation, and equipment upkeep
Contribute to data analysis and help prepare figures for presentations or publications
Participate in lab meetings and collaborate with other lab members
Assist key lab safety person with compliance of the institutional safety and regulatory policies

Required

Bachelor's degree in Genetics, Biology, Biochemistry, or related field
Prior hands-on experience with molecular biology and genetic techniques
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Be willing to handle animals

Preferred

Previous experience working with yeast and mice
Familiarity with sterile technique and microbiology practices
Experience with software tools for data analysis (e.g., Excel, ImageJ, SnapGene)
