Technical Writer

The Technical Writer will support the Information Technology team by creating and maintaining high-quality technical documentation, ensuring compliance with internal standards and security expectations.

Responsibilities
Prepare, edit, and maintain IT technical manuals, procedures, work instructions, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency
Coordinate timelines, content development, and formatting standards for IT technical and compliance-related documentation projects
Interview IT team members, observe processes, and conduct research to accurately capture technical and procedural information
Assist with document lifecycle activities including document numbering, version control, review coordination, approval workflows, release, and controlled distribution
Organize IT documentation within approved systems such as SharePoint GCC High and M-Files, ensuring logical structure, consistent metadata, and proper storage
Provide guidance on document security classification, including CUI marking expectations, approved storage locations, and handling requirements
Support identification and correction of improperly marked or improperly stored IT documentation in collaboration with document owners and IT leadership
Help develop and maintain standardized IT document templates, headers, footers, and formatting to improve consistency and reduce errors
Work closely with IT teams to resolve technical, documentation, or process-related issues
Serve as an IT documentation resource during technical document reviews, presentations, and compliance readiness activities
Qualification
Required
Associate's degree in a technical, communications, or related field (Bachelor's degree preferred)
3 or more years of experience in technical writing, documentation control, or a related role
Technical background strongly preferred
Proficiency in developing and editing technical manuals and documentation using computer-based tools
Strong ability to interpret, organize, and communicate complex technical data
Experience with document control systems and change management processes
Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in dynamic environments
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to maintain confidentiality and adapt to evolving requirements
Availability to support a temporary project assignment lasting up to six months
Preferred
Exposure to NIST 800-171 or CMMC environments preferred
