Production Supervisor - Machining

The Production Supervisor – Machining will oversee departmental operations, manage equipment and staffing, ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
Directly responsible for all departmental operations, including CNC programming
This position has responsibility for meeting production deadlines
This position is responsible for performance evaluations; wage increase recommendations and appropriate disciplinary actions
Responsible for overseeing the management of equipment, scheduling of workstations and workers, requisition of supplies and coordination administrative activities as required
Produce parts and products in accordance with the established safety, quality, and cost standards of the Company
Responsible for the day-to-day operations and direction of personnel in Machining
Ensure all department employees are adequately trained, work safely and all hazardous conditions are eliminated
Create and maintain a staffing schedule with a redundancy plan to ensure deadlines are met even in the event of unplanned absences
Determine manpower requirements needed to meet product throughput requirements
Ensure statutory, regulatory and environmental regulations are met
Work closely with Value Stream Manager and Quality Manager to ensure quality standards and continuous improvement objectives and requirements are met
Work to ensure that the Quality Management System is met and upheld
Monitor customer delivery or ship schedules to ensure that due dates are met
Manage machining budget
Monitor performance metrics and take appropriate action, as needed
Help design, improve and implement procedures related to area of responsibility
Ensure cross departmental communication is accurate and effective
Supervise and monitor employees reporting to you, including performance evaluation, training, work allocation and problem resolution
Ensure all applicable operating policies and procedures are adhered to
Ensure production departments operate within regulatory and statutory regulations
Identify process improvement and submit change requests, as needed
Assist with manufacturing process difficulties, i.e. tooling, drawing requirements and interpretations
Implement and maintain inventory control systems and procedures; safeguard and oversee the use of department supplies and materials
Responsible for accuracy of department inventory quantities
Ensure the department maintains a neat and clean work area
Determine department tooling requirements and prioritize job sequence to assure the most efficient and effective production process
Ensure cross training is adequate to maintain scheduling flexibility and redundancy
Assist the Value Stream Manager to ensure that adequate supervision is present in the plant, including weekends and other non-traditional workdays
Other ad hoc duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Physical- able to lift 40 lbs
Working Hours- fulltime (40+ hrs/week) employment
Excellent communication skills with positive teamwork and safety attitude
Conscientious attention to detail and accuracy while able to multi-task and troubleshoot
Display good leadership qualities
Be a role model for the department and set the standard of productivity, safety, and quality for employees of different levels to follow
Good organization skills - must be able to schedule the plant
Strong ability to troubleshoot process failures
Excellent mechanical acumen and problem-solving skills are required
Leadership and influence – able to motivate a team
Teambuilding and collaboration
Able to program CNC Machining equipment
Ability to read, understand and explain schematics, blueprints and/or technical manuals
Possess basic math skills including ability to read and use tape measure, caliper and micrometer to the fraction and decimal
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experienced in the use of Word, Excel and ERP (EPICOR preferred)
Safety and Quality minded
Eight (8) years of diverse Machining experience in a metal manufacturing environment
5 years of leadership experience
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or comparable discipline
Knowledge of ISO9000; AS9100
