DATA PRIVACY PROGRAM COORDINATOR (COMMUNITY PROGRAM SPECIALIST III)

The City of Long Beach is seeking a Data Privacy Program Coordinator to lead a National Science Foundation project aimed at enhancing the Digital Rights Platform. This role involves project management, community engagement, and supporting the Data Privacy Office with privacy evaluations and education initiatives.

Responsibilities

Support NSF grant activities, including stakeholder engagement and coordination, development of written materials, and representing the City of Long Beach at project meetings
Coordinate communications outreach and support for internal and external privacy initiatives
Support equitable delivery of community education programs, workshops, and events related to data privacy, digital rights, and AI
Assist with delivering staff training on data transparency and privacy policy requirements
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to administer and implement grant objectives, including event planning, platform user engagement, and program evaluation
Assist the Data Privacy Office in conducting privacy evaluations of new and legacy technology projects, including publishing Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), vendor reviews, and other data privacy program compliance activities
Maintain an inventory of City technologies and associated privacy risks
Maintain and update the City’s Digital Rights Platform webpage
Collect and analyze program data; prepare reports and recommendations; assess effectiveness of NSF grant-funded initiatives
Collaborate with City departments, task forces, and external stakeholders to advance the City’s privacy initiatives
Monitor trends in technology and data privacy; recommend adjustments to City policies or practices
Perform other related duties as assigned

Required

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, communications, information systems, data science, or a related field. (Proof of education required)
A minimum of two (2) years of full-time professional experience in project coordination, project management, program administration, communications, or related work

Preferred

Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, presentations, and outreach materials
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, community members, and external partners
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and comfort working with databases, websites, or digital tools
At least two (2) years of project coordination, program communications, or administrative support experience
Experience in public-sector privacy, compliance, or technology policy is desirable
Experience managing or supporting public-facing platforms, websites, or digital resources
Knowledge of data privacy concepts, regulations, and frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, NIST, Privacy Impact Assessments, etc.)
Experience developing and delivering training, educational programs, or community outreach campaigns
Familiarity with data governance, cybersecurity, or IT operations
Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and reducing the digital divide
Certification or training in privacy (e.g., CIPM, CIPP) is a plus
