The State of Alaska's Office of Information Technology is seeking a Data Processing Manager I to lead transformative IT projects within the Telecom/Network Section. Responsibilities
Lead and Innovate: Manage and be the expert in maintaining and operating the state's enterprise network

Collaborative Excellence: Work closely with IT technical staff, department program managers, senior staff from federal, state, and local agencies, and private contractors to ensure seamless communication and project success
Daily work consists of supervisory duties related to managing staff, providing guidance, assigning and reviewing work, completing tasks related to the maintenance and operation of the enterprise network, planning, designing and implementing new services or changes to an existing service, leading or being a member of a team for enterprise initiatives or projects, providing daily customer support statewide, and ensuring state employees possess the necessary electronic capabilities to perform their day-to-day duties

Infrastructure Design: Knowledge of the architecture and typology of software, hardware, and networks, including LANS, WANS, and telecommunications systems, their components and associated protocols and standards, and how they operate and integrate with one another and with associated controlling software
Technology Awareness: Knowledge of developments and new applications of information technology (hardware, software, telecommunications), emerging technologies and their applications to business processes, and applications and implementation of information systems to meet organizational requirements
Telecommunications: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of transmissions, broadcasting, switching, control, construction, or operation of telecommunications systems
Data Systems: Knowledge of computer hardware and software development and systems as they apply to the conception, specification, analysis, planning, development, installation, test, modification and use of data handling and computing systems
Database Management Systems: Knowledge of the uses of database management systems and software to control the organization, storage, retrieval, security, and integrity of data
Leadership: Influences, motivates, and challenges others; adapts leadership styles to a variety of situations
Developing Others: Develops the ability of others to perform and contribute to the organization by providing ongoing feedback and by providing opportunities to learn through formal and informal methods
Critical Thinking: Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
Client Engagement/Change Management: Knowledge of the impact of change on people, processes, procedures, leadership, and organizational culture; knowledge of change management principles, strategies, and techniques required for effectively planning, implementing, and evaluating change in the organization
Equivalent to those typically gained by: Training in information technology or a similar field with progressively responsible professional experience that developed expertise in one or more IT functions and the provision of IT services to business and public users and includes prior lead and/or supervisory responsibility
Positions may be identified as being significantly involved in the following options: operations; programming/analysis; specialized support, such as technical services, data communications, data base (DBMS) administration information management, etc. Systems software and hardware used must have been equivalent in size and complexity to computer systems used by the State of Alaska
For some positions in these job classes a background investigation including fingerprinting is required

Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance
