Design Engineer
RGI Creative is a multidisciplinary design-build firm specializing in immersive exhibits, events, and environments. As a Design Engineer, you'll lead the mechanical and technical design of custom exhibits, ensuring they meet safety and environmental standards while collaborating with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical and technical design of custom exhibits, environments, and interactives
Produce comprehensive design documentation, including CAD models, bills of materials, wiring schematics, and build instructions
Design within project budgets and timelines, meeting established milestones
Support fabrication and production staff with technical drawings, prototypes, and consultation throughout the build process
Ensure ADA, safety, and environmental standards are incorporated into all engineered solutions
Participate in installation, site assessments, and maintenance of projects—both locally and nationally (travel up to 25%)
Mentor junior team members and collaborate closely with designers, drafters, and fabricators
Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure design integrity and delivery quality
Contribute to cross-functional planning meetings and communicate effectively with all project stakeholders
Identify and implement innovative mechanical, electrical, or digital systems to enhance interactivity and durability
Stay informed on emerging materials, tools, and fabrication techniques that could benefit our exhibits
Support sustainability goals through responsible material selection and engineering efficiencies
Maintain and refine internal design standards, practices, and documentation libraries
Assist in organizing and improving digital archives, maintenance guides, and engineering templates
Qualification
Required
5+ years of hands-on experience with exhibit, product, or mechanical design in a collaborative environment
High-level proficiency in Autodesk Inventor; working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft 365
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects from concept through fabrication with minimal supervision
Skilled in prototyping, fabrication, and troubleshooting in wood, metal, and plastics
Experience creating documentation for both internal teams and client use
Strong communication skills and ability to visualize and convey design ideas through sketching and CAD
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Design, Industrial Design, or related field
Experience working within museum, educational, or themed entertainment environments
Knowledge of ADA compliance, interactive technologies, and sensory-inclusive design principles
Interest in science, education, or experiential storytelling
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks in shop and installation environments
