Human Resources Generalist
Redwood Community Services is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to provide operational HR support and administer established HR processes under the direction of the HR Director. This role serves as a resource for employees and managers regarding HR policies, benefits, recruitment activities, and workers’ compensation processes, ensuring effective HR practices across the organization.

Responsibilities
Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding HR policies, procedures, and workplace-related questions
Support employee relations matters by gathering information, preparing documentation, and ensuring consistent application of HR processes under the guidance of the HR Director
Maintain accurate, confidential personnel files and HRIS records
Support onboarding and offboarding processes
Assist with performance management and corrective action documentation
Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollments, changes, employee education, and coordination with benefit vendors
Support annual open enrollment and ongoing benefits administration activities
Administer employee leaves, including FMLA, CFRA, Pregnancy Disability Leave, ADA/FEHA accommodations, and other statutory or organizational leaves
Track leave usage, issue required notices, and coordinate return-to-work processes
Provide administrative support for workers’ compensation claims, including claim intake, documentation, coordination with carriers and internal stakeholders, and tracking claim status
Partner with payroll to ensure accurate benefits-, leave-, and workers’ compensation-related pay practices
Support recruitment and hiring activities in collaboration with other HR team members and HR Director
Assist with job posting coordination, applicant tracking, and interview scheduling
Participate in screening activities, reference checks, and hiring documentation as assigned
Support onboarding preparation to ensure a smooth transition for new hires
Share responsibility for recruitment-related tasks to ensure continuity during high-volume periods or staff absences
Assist with compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, with emphasis on California requirements
Support implementation and communication of HR policies and procedures
Assist with HR audits, reporting, and record retention requirements
Prepare HR reports, metrics, and documentation as requested
Support HR initiatives and special projects led by the HR Director
Coordinate HR-related communications and training logistics as needed
Qualification
Required
3–5 years of progressively responsible human resources experience performing operational HR functions
Working knowledge of California employment laws, including benefits, leave, and hiring requirements
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
High attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information appropriately
Proficiency with HRIS and applicant tracking systems
Must possess a valid CA Driver's License, current auto insurance, and a clean DMV printout (no more than 3 points)
Must pass a clear background check with DOJ, CACI, FBI, CCL
CPR and First Aid Certified
TB Exam and Physical at the time of employment
Preferred
SHRM-CP or PHR, or active pursuit of certification
Experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
Experience supporting organizations with 300+ employees
