Technical Director

Spikemark is a Technical Event Production company specializing in delivering seamless audio, video, lighting, and staging solutions for large-scale corporate and experiential events. As Technical Director, you will oversee the technical planning and execution of events, managing documentation and coordinating with vendors to ensure high standards of safety and quality.
Events Services

Responsibilities

Collaborate with producers, designers, and clients to understand event scope, technical needs, and budget
Create detailed technical documentation including:
CAD / Vectorworks drawings (layouts, lighting plots, rigging, AV designs)
Gear lists and technical riders
Venue/site surveys and assessments (power, rigging, load-in/out logistics)
Develop production schedules and timelines, including pre-production, rehearsals, load-in, show, strike, and load-out
Prepare technical budgets, equipment estimates, and vendor quotes
Lead and supervise technical crew and vendor partners during setup, rehearsal, and live show operations
Attend site visits, pre-production meetings, and vendor shop checks to ensure all technical details are addressed
Troubleshoot technical issues on-site and manage contingency planning
Ensure compliance with safety standards, codes, and best practices in rigging, power, and crew management
Maintain oversight of equipment condition, inventory, and rentals; recommend purchases and upgrades as needed
Conduct post-event technical reviews to refine workflows and improve future performance
Stay informed on emerging technologies, workflows, and event production best practices

Required

5+ years of experience in technical direction, production management, or similar roles in event production
Strong proficiency in Vectorworks or other CAD software
In-depth knowledge of audio, video, lighting, rigging, and power systems for live events
Experience preparing technical documents, including power/rigging plots and production schedules
Strong organizational and budgeting skills; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Proven leadership in supervising technical crews and coordinating vendors
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills; calm under pressure in live environments
Flexible schedule, with ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required

Preferred

Certifications in rigging, safety, or electrical systems
Experience across a range of event types, including corporate meetings, trade shows, brand activations and live entertainment
Familiarity with project management and collaboration software
Ability to work closely with creative teams and interpret design intent into technical solutions
