Responsibilities
Prepare, review, and post recurring and non-recurring payroll journal entries in SAP FI/CO, including gross-to-net, employer taxes, benefits, garnishments, PTO/ARO accruals, and intercompany payroll allocations
Own monthly payroll-related account reconciliations, including clearing, suspense, payroll cash, tax payable, benefits, wage liability, and accrual accounts
Reconcile SAP Payroll results to the general ledger and validate payroll interfaces to FI/CO and banking systems
Maintain standardized journal entry templates and reconciliation workpapers with clear audit trails to meet SOX/internal control requirements
Coordinate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close deliverables; prepare variance analysis and supporting schedules
Calculate and record payroll accruals and reversals; evaluate materiality and propose adjusting entries
Support external audits and financial reporting by providing requested schedules and documentation
Partner with cross-functional teams on new compensation or benefits programs and ensure proper accounting setup
Drive process improvements and refine mappings between SAP HCM Payroll and SAP FI/CO
Contribute to UAT and regression testing for system upgrades and patches
Develop and maintain desktop procedures and payroll accounting documentation
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Accounting preferred)
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in payroll accounting within a mid-to-large organization
Hands-on experience with SAP Payroll/HCM and SAP FI/CO
Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, Power Query/Power Pivot, complex formulas, and reconciliations
Solid understanding of US GAAP, including accruals, compensation/benefits accounting, and intercompany transactions
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced close cycle
Proven ability to collaborate with Payroll, HR, and Finance teams
CPA (active or in progress)
Preferred
Experience in union (CBA) environments and multiple pay frequencies
Experience with ADP or other outsourced payroll providers
Familiarity with SOX controls and audit support
Experience with automation or analytics tools such as Power BI, Alteryx, or VBA
