Parks Maintenance Supervisor
NEOGOV is seeking a Parks Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the Parks Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department in Wrightsville Beach. The role involves planning, organizing, and directing maintenance activities, supervising staff, and ensuring the upkeep of park facilities and landscapes.

Responsibilities
Supervises staff on a daily basis and creates assignments according to a schedule of priorities and work orders
Participates in hiring, conducts training, performance coaching and evaluation of staff
Prepare time and payroll records; compiles and reviews staff reports
Provides input on annual budget needs; approves invoices, and ensures expenditures remain within approved budget
Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies
Performs varied manual, semi-skilled trades’ tasks and complex skilled duties as needed
Inspects park facilities and fields; makes repairs or schedules work as required
Directs or performs varied landscaping duties such as pruning, mowing, spraying, fertilizing, etc
Directs or performs maintenance, minor construction, and repairs on recreational facilities, playgrounds, picnic areas, and other park amenities
Oversees and/or drags and marks ball fields, levels dirt infields and base lines; operates tractor, truck, front end loader, backhoe, riding and push mowers, edger, weed eater, blower, chainsaw and other maintenance equipment
Oversees and monitors the health of the dunes system
Oversees, monitors and maintains trees within the Town limits
Answers patrons’ questions on park policies and procedures
Assigns, creates, verifies completion of work orders
Inspects and maintains playground equipment and facilities
Performs other related duties as required
Qualification
Required
Thorough knowledge of ornamental landscaping, turf management, and arboriculture, especially in a coastal setting
Considerable knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment utilized in maintenance of athletic fields and facilities
Considerable knowledge of the safety and hazards of the work, related liabilities, and applicable safety standards (Occupational Safety and Health Act)
Considerable knowledge of playground safety and maintenance
Considerable knowledge of modern effective supervisory principles and practices including motivation, communication, leadership, discipline, performance coaching and evaluation
Skill in the operation of assigned equipment and tools, including tractors, loaders, mowers, sprayers, small equipment, etc
Ability to organize, schedule and supervise employees effectively
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms, as well as work well independently and within a team setting
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple stakeholders; supervisors, citizens, coworkers and visitors, who are involved in use of parks, athletic fields and recreational activities
Physical ability to engage in heavy manual labor for extended periods of time in an outdoor setting
Ability to exercise courtesy and tact in dealing with the public and with other employees
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in turf management or related field and some related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Considerable experience supplemented by training in landscaping and turf management that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license
Possession of an NC Pesticide License
Possession of a Certified Playground Inspector license or willingness to obtain
