Responsibilities

Design modular, reusable mechanical fixtures for electronics testing, beginning with manual bench setups and evolving into fully automated, high-volume production systems
Develop mechanical test solutions that support design characterization, validation, and manufacturing of vehicle electronic control units (ECUs)
Partner with electrical, firmware, and manufacturing teams to define mechanical test requirements and improve overall testability
Create custom mechanical interfaces for ECUs, including pogo-pin interfaces and bed-of-nails probing solutions
Design rack-mounted test systems that simplify replication, reduce build time, and support scalable deployment
Produce and maintain detailed mechanical drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), and standard operating procedures
Support the release process for drawings, BOMs, and system documentation
Coordinate with external vendors and internal stakeholders throughout procurement, fabrication, integration, and final commissioning
Provide technical guidance and oversight to suppliers manufacturing mechanical components and assemblies
Work hands-on with technicians to communicate requirements and ensure correct system implementation

Required

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience)
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience designing modular mechanical hardware for test automation systems used in both R&D and high-volume manufacturing
Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, ProE, or similar
Strong understanding of electronics test hardware, including probing, harnessing, and interconnect solutions (e.g., mass interconnect systems like VPC, specialty probes such as Ingun)
Ability to interpret electrical schematics, review PCB layouts, and understand component and manufacturer datasheets
Experience supporting automated test equipment (ATE) in manufacturing environments
Hands-on experience integrating mechanical hardware with automated test systems
Background in automotive, semiconductor, aerospace, or similarly regulated, high-reliability industries

Preferred

Familiarity with vehicle communication protocols such as CAN, CAN FD, LIN, DoIP, and Automotive Ethernet
Experience with automation and test instrumentation, including programmable power supplies, DMMs, multiplexers, signal analyzers, signal generators, and multifunction I/O devices
