Assistant Technician - Testing Laboratory

The State of Maine is seeking an Assistant Technician for the Department of Transportation. This role involves performing complex engineering duties in a construction materials testing laboratory, including testing soils and aggregates and maintaining laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities

Performing high quality testing of soils and aggregate in precise accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, and MaineDOT procedures as trained and directed
Performing routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory testing equipment
Stand for long hours, regularly handling and manipulating heavy material samples without assistance
Working safely with power tools, testing equipment, and when handling samples, being sure to follow all safety requirements

Required

Three (3) years of experience in engineering or a related technical field–OR- an Associate Degree in Engineering or a related technical field and one (1) year of experience in engineering
Performing high quality testing of soils and aggregate in precise accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, and MaineDOT procedures as trained and directed
Performing routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory testing equipment
Stand for long hours, regularly handling and manipulating heavy material samples without assistance
Working safely with power tools, testing equipment, and when handling samples, being sure to follow all safety requirements

Preferred

Prior testing experience and Certification with NETTCP as a Soils & Aggregate Laboratory Technician is desired
Candidates without certification will be developed with the expectation of becoming certified within 2 years of hire
