Responsibilities
Own problem spaces or projects end-to-end, beyond individual features or tasks
Define scope for yourself and team members; oversee designs spanning multiple contributors
Design solutions with consideration for upstream/downstream system integrations
Solve ambiguous infrastructure challenges without clear or predefined answers
Serve as technical lead on infrastructure initiatives and break down complex work into executable steps
Architect infrastructure subsystems with long-term scalability and failure modes in mind
Evaluate and deconstruct complex systems to identify areas for improvement
Design and implement cloud architecture across Azure (VMs, VNets, Storage, Entra ID) and AWS (EC2, VPC, S3, IAM)
Architect and manage on-prem virtualization platforms including Hyper‐V and Client vSphere
Design and maintain hybrid cloud integrations between on‐prem and cloud environments
Make balanced technical tradeoffs between short‐term business needs and long‐term goals
Advocate for new technologies and engineering techniques
Document architecture decisions and detailed system interactions
Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform for multi‐cloud provisioning
Implement and optimize configuration management with Ansible, Chef, or similar tools
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment and configuration
Identify technical debt and implement refactoring to improve team and system velocity
Automate processes to reduce operational overhead and improve efficiency
Administer Windows Server and Linux systems across hybrid environments
Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, and Entra ID (Azure AD)
Establish technical standards and guide planning and timelines
Integrate methodologies and architectural principles across the organization
Uphold and improve quality standards for infrastructure engineering
Design metrics, monitoring, and alerting for all infrastructure components
Implement observability solutions (e.g., SumoLogic, Datadog)
Lead and manage high‐pressure incident response for owned services
Coordinate deployments using proper communication and change management
Conduct root cause analysis for complex failures
Ensure adherence to engineering and security standards
Document runbooks, processes, and architectural designs
Participate in an on-call rotation
Drive technical alignment and cross-team collaboration
Mentor junior engineers and support their career development
Facilitate technical decision-making and navigate disagreements constructively
Help teams integrate diverse technical approaches and resolve conflicts
Provide actionable feedback in code and design reviews
Collaborate with InfoSec, DevOps, Network, and Application teams
Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Qualification
Required
5–8+ years in Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or Systems Engineering
Proven ownership of complex systems and technical problem spaces
Experience leading large-scale technical initiatives and mentoring engineers
Demonstrated ability to solve ambiguous problems and make strategic technical decisions
Experience architecting systems for scale, reliability, and maintainability
History of identifying technical debt and delivering infrastructure improvements
Expert-level Terraform for multi-cloud provisioning
Deep experience with Azure and AWS
Hyper‐V and Client vSphere/ESXi expertise
Advanced Windows Server and Linux administration
Active Directory, Group Policy, Entra ID, federation services
Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or similar
Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI
Python, PowerShell, Bash
SumoLogic, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana
