Responsibilities

Promote parent education and involvement in various school programs and other activities; provide information and materials to parents to assist them in utilizing community services and resources; conduct assessment screenings as assigned and refer families to local agencies or school services as appropriate; maintain related records
Perform liaison duties between school, community resources and agencies and parents at an assigned school site; communicate with parents regarding student performance including attendance, behavior, academic achievement, health and medical problems; make home visits to acquire information and discuss school-related problems such as absenteeism, illnesses, behavior problems and other matters
Unite outside organizations, schools and families; inform community agencies of available school services; resolve issues or concerns as needed; contact community businesses to obtain donations of food and equipment as assigned
Facilitate family participation in various activities; identify and encourage recruitment of parent volunteers; explain and assist in determining program eligibility; arrange parent activities including recruitment, training, and scheduling; monitor parent activities
Participate in student recognition programs for school and community service projects; recommend students receiving awards; prepare speeches and written materials for distribution as assigned
Conduct and coordinate parent training and associated school committees; arrange training schedule, speakers, meeting sites and presentations; prepare and distribute promotional related materials
Monitor students with chronic homework problems; confer with parents and teachers regarding students; prepare progress reports; represent school at site meetings
Communicate with other departments and District staff to coordinate services
Represent assigned site at a variety of school and community meetings; attend and participate in workshops and conferences as assigned
Operate a variety of office and classroom equipment including a computer, copier, laminator, VCR, television set and telephone; drive a vehicle to conduct work
Perform a variety of clerical duties including typing, answering telephones, duplicating materials and preparing correspondence; prepare news releases concerning upcoming events
Translate written materials from English to a second language as assigned by the position; provide translation for conferences and other meetings as assigned

Required

Proficiency in Spanish and English or Russian and English
Ability to read, write and speak Spanish or Russian fluently
Bachelor's degree in social services, education or a related field
One year experience working in an instructional or social program
Valid California driver's license
Incumbents are required to speak, read and write in a designated second language

Benefits

Employees accumulate twelve (12) days of vacation during the first year of employment, increasing up to twenty-two (22) days beginning the 18th year of service, prorated for part-time, 9, 10, and 11 month assignments.
The number of paid holidays per year varies from twelve (12) to fifteen (15) days depending on the work calendar.
Employees accumulate twelve (12) days of paid sick leave per year, with unlimited accumulation, prorated for part-time, 9, 10, and 11 month employees.
All employees who are in the classified service and work four (4) hours per day or more are members of the Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and Federal Social Security.
If an employee in the classified service works less than four (4) hours per day they are members of an Alternate Retirement System (PARS) and do not contribute to Social Security.
Approximately 7% is deducted from your paycheck for PERS retirement.
The District offers a comprehensive health benefits program for employees who work twenty (20) hours or more per week.
This includes medical, vision, dental insurance plans and life insurance for employees.
For full-time employees the District pays the employee's health, vision, dental, and life insurance premiums with an employee contribution required for some plans.
For part-time employees plans are available on a prorated basis.
Dependent coverage is available.
Professional growth points shall be earned by employee participation while in non-paid status in activities which are employment related.
Professional growth points are awarded annually and accumulate at $20 per approved Professional Growth Point and/or tuition and textbook reimbursement up to $500 is also available - limited to one per year.
