Distribution Expeditor

Standard Motor Products, Inc. (SMP) is a leading independent manufacturer and distributor of automotive replacement parts. The Distribution Expeditor is responsible for the timely movement of goods through the distribution center, overseeing product transitions and ensuring high-priority shipments are processed efficiently.

Responsibilities

Monitor the dock schedule to ensure trailers are loaded and unloaded according to the daily priority list
Identify high-priority or backordered items and "fast-track" them through the warehouse to ensure immediate shipping
Communicate with freight carriers and third-party logistics (3PL) providers to track shipments and resolve transit delays
Investigate "short-ships," overages, or damaged goods reported by the receiving team or customers
Identify bottlenecks in the picking or packing stations and reallocate resources to clear backlogs
Ensure all Bill of Ladings (BOLs), packing slips, and customs documents (for international shipping) are accurate and processed on time
Perform functions to increase the potential fill levels for orders within the DC

Required

Logistics Knowledge: Understanding of freight classes, shipping modes (LTL, FTL, Parcel), and warehouse management systems (WMS)
High-Speed Coordination: Ability to manage hundreds of SKUs and dozens of outgoing shipments simultaneously
Systems Expertise: Proficiency in WMS software (e.g., Dematic DIT, JDE, Legacy) and RF scanner technology
Problem-Solving: The ability to find an alternative shipping solution when a primary carrier fails or a weather delay occurs
Qualified candidates will offer a Bachelor's degree in related field or combination of Education plus 2+ years Supply Chain experience
Successful candidates should have knowledge of database, internet, inventory, spreadsheet software (MS Excel) and word processing
Strong interpersonal, oral/written communication and problem solving skills are essential as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
