Advanced Electrical Engineer

Responsibilities

Lead design, development, and qualification of complex AC-DC and DC-DC power conversion systems for mission-critical applications
Serve as technical authority for power electronics design decisions and provide strategic direction for power system architectures
Perform advanced circuit analysis, component selection, power system optimization, and design validation
Architect electrical solutions and create detailed schematics, PCB layouts, and comprehensive technical documentation
Lead power system testing, validation, troubleshooting, and qualification activities
Drive cross-functional collaboration to integrate power solutions into larger system architectures and ensure seamless integration
Perform advanced thermal analysis and lead development of thermal management solutions for high-power electronics
Mentor and develop engineering teams, fostering technical excellence in power electronics design
Lead and conduct design reviews, providing expert guidance and driving technical decisions
Analyze and resolve complex power quality issues including ripple, noise, efficiency optimization, control loop stability, and transient response
Lead prototype development, testing, and transition to production with minimal oversight
Drive component and architecture trade studies to determine optimal power system solutions
Represent power electronics team in program reviews and customer technical discussions
Establish and champion power electronics design standards and best practices

Required

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering, Technology or Mathematics field
Also requires 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years of job-related experience
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire
Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required

Preferred

10+ years of progressive experience designing complex AC-DC and DC-DC power converters with proven leadership
Expert knowledge of advanced power supply topologies (buck, boost, flyback, forward converter, full-bridge, resonant converters, etc.)
Extensive experience with switch mode power converter design including advanced control loop design and stability analysis
Deep understanding of 3-phase AC-DC conversion, power factor correction, and transformer design
Expert proficiency with power electronics simulation tools (LTSpice, PSIM, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar)
Advanced experience with PCB design tools and high-power layout optimization
Deep expertise in EMI/EMC design, analysis, and mitigation techniques for power systems
Advanced knowledge of magnetic component design including custom transformer and inductor development
Expert-level thermal analysis capabilities and experience with advanced cooling solutions
Comprehensive understanding of military power standards (MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-1399, etc.) and qualification testing
Deep expertise in power semiconductor devices, gate drive design, and switching characteristics optimization
Expert proficiency with lab equipment and advanced measurement techniques
Knowledge of international safety standards and regulatory requirements (UL, IEC, DO-160, etc.)
Extensive experience with ruggedized, high-reliability, or safety-critical power system design
Advanced understanding of digital control, DSP-based power management, and adaptive control techniques
Experience leading power systems through formal qualification, acceptance testing, and customer demonstrations
Knowledge of advanced reliability analysis including FMEA, worst-case analysis, and MTBF calculations
Experience with wide bandgap semiconductors (SiC, GaN) and their applications
Understanding of parallel power architectures and load sharing techniques
Track record of innovation including patents or technical publications in power electronics
