Responsibilities
Providing excellent customer service while issuing various City of Conroe related permits with substantial data entry
Fields questions and complaints from the public via telephone, email and in person; provides public with information and assistance in properly completing all forms necessary for the permitting process
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or equivalent
Two years of experience in a building or planning department
Six months experience in computerized building permit applications processing
ICBO Permit Technician certification or must obtain within one year of employment
Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
Familiarity with building plans, codes, ordinances and related terminology
Knowledge of the processes and procedures associated with the building construction permitting process
Skill in both written and oral communication
Ability to provide excellent customer service
Ability to quickly learn and apply departmental policies and procedures related to the acceptance and review of permit applications
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to work with a wide variety of people, including industry professionals, internal staff and the general public
Ability to maintain composure under difficult circumstances
Ability to complete tasks with multiple distractions
Must pass background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening as a condition of employment
A motor vehicle record check and job-related doctor's physical exam may also be required
Preferred
Some college courses preferred
Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
